Karl Lagasse, a renowned artist, rose to prominence in 2009 with his sculptures One Dollar, that same year ranking among the ten best sculptors under 30 according to Artprice. In 2012, the New York publication Farameh named him as one of the fifty best contemporary artists, inspired by traditional American icons, in its work FOR WHICH IT STANDS: Americana in Contemporary Art. More recently, in 2016, during the Art Paris Art Fair, the President of the French Republic warmly congratulated Karl for his impressive two-meter bronze sculpture, One Dollar, exhibited at the Grand Palais. Karl's artistic journey began at the age of 7 with collages, prompted by his encounter with sculptor César Baldaccini. He then turned to tagging and graffiti in the Paris metro while remaining passionate about collages. The artist Yvaral Vasarely encouraged him to fuse his tags with his collages. In 2003, Karl prepared his first exhibition in Paris, which led to his first solo show in 2006 at the Isy Brachot Gallery in Brussels. For the 46th edition of the Festival in 2020, Karl Lagasse received a commission to produce a new trophy, inspired by an iconic Deauville symbol: the drawing of the barriers that separate the cabins on the Planches. In 2016, France Culture mentioned Karl in an article about his monumental installation, A Piece of Heaven on Earth, which combines a Maserati covered in white plastic and a statue of Jesus surrounded by dollar-shaped sculptures, symbolizing human debt. This work was unveiled at the 2015 Art Paris Art Fair in collaboration with Maserati. In 2017, he created the Deauville American Film Festival Trophy, drawing inspiration from his work Cryptogramme One and adding messages such as "Hope" and "7e Art" on the trophies.
