Rare Swiss Ebony Cylinder Music Box, ca. 1870-1890 – 6 Classical Tunes
Antique Swiss cylinder music box from the Joux Valley (Sainte-Croix), circa 1870-1890, with protective glass over the pristine gilded brass mechanism.
The arched comb has ~22 steel teeth, powering a smooth-turning brass cylinder that plays 6 period tunes listed on the original faded parchment label inside the lid: "La Flute Hongroise" (Doppler), "Le Réveil du Lion" (Kontski), "La Fleur du Souvenir," and others – classic virtuoso repertoire.
The item features a luxurious black ebony case with rosewood marquetry floral inlays on lid and sides, turned ebony legs, made in the 1960s specifically to elegantly display and host the music box.
Fully functional with ~80% original gilding intact, no rust or damage; minor patina enhances authenticity. Dimensions approx. 32x22x18cm (LxWxH); compact table-top size ideal for collectors. Excellent condition throughout, matching high-end anonymous Genevan makers like Paillard/Nicole style.
