Descrizione del venditore
European school (late XIX) - Cattle in a Meadow.
61 x 51 cm (without frame) - 66 x 56 cm (with frame).
Oil on canvas, in a gilt wood frame.
Signed lower right.
The painting depicts three cattle in a summer meadow: a standing white cow at the centre, a recumbent brown bovine in the foreground at left, and a third animal seen from behind in the middle distance at right. The setting is the edge of a wood, with a flowering tree in the upper left and a rustic fence visible among the vegetation. The handling of the animals' coats shows a confident command of colour and light, with loose brushwork in the treatment of the grass and foliage. The subject belongs to the tradition of European animal painting of the late 19th century, with references to the Barbizon school and plein air practice.
