Descrizione del venditore
Rare surviving episodes from various Sunday Comics sections of Ben Webster by Edwin Alger (Russell Cole) on 1/2 pages.
Only some pages have been selected for being photographed.
Published in period 1935-1941
149 half pages (24x1935, 42x1938, 28x1939, 55x1936-1941). The pages are collected in brown envelopes.
Ben Webster was the titular protagonist of a comic-strip series from 1926 to 1940. He and his dog Briar would regularly face rogue “banksters” and rescue damsels-in-distress.
Ben Webster was a creation of Jay Jerome Williams, using the pen name “Edwin Alger”. His “banksters” were crooked bank executives which manipulated mortgages to steal the homes of honest families. While one of the earliest adventure pages/strips, its didacticism and tendency to promote “decent values” has gained it an enduring reputation for dullness.
The pages are in good condition, although wrinkles, tears, flaking and missing pieces may occur.
Will be shipped with track&trace.
The lots in this auction can be shipped combined. This is taken into account up to a weight of 5 kg. If packages need to be split due to weight, an additional charge will apply. In this case, we will contact you.
