Ispahbads of Tabaristan Silver 1/2 Drachm – Farrukhan (711-731 AD)

Remarkable piece of ancient history: a silver 1/2 Drachm (Hemidrachm) from the Ispahbads of Tabaristan. Minted under the rule of Farrukhan the Great during PYE 75 (Post-Yazdegard Era), this coin is a fantastic opportunity to add a genuine, intricately designed artifact to your collection. Originating from the historic region of Tabaristan, which corresponds to modern-day Iran, specifically the mountainous coast along the Caspian Sea. Coins like this would have circulated prominently throughout the local trade networks of the 8th century.

This coin is in wonderful shape, showcasing crisp, elaborate details across both sides. The obverse features a striking Sasanian-style bust of the ruler wearing a traditional winged crown, surrounded by clear script. The reverse displays a classic Zoroastrian fire altar flanked by two attendants. It features a lovely, bright silver appearance that gives it exceptional eye appeal for a coin nearly 1,300 years old. It weighs in at a solid 2.1 grams.
