A Victorian pocket telescope. A superb piece of Victorian scientific history. This 6-draw pocket telescope was manufactured by J. Franks at 44 Market Street, Manchester, circa 1870. Representing the height of Northern English craftsmanship, this instrument collapses from a generous 45.3cm extended length down to a compact 14.6cm—perfect for the Victorian gentleman's greatcoat pocket.
The telescope features a beautiful solid mahogany barrel and six precision-fitted brass draw tubes. The first draw is elegantly engraved with the maker’s details: "J. Franks, 44 Market St, Manchester."
