Descrizione del venditore
This bronze statue of the Dancing Faun is a faithful reproduction of one of the most iconic masterpieces of ancient art, discovered in Pompeii and now preserved at the Museo Archeologico Nazionale di Napoli.
The work depicts a dancing faun, a symbol of fertility and abundance in Greco-Roman culture. His dynamic posture and joyful expression convey a powerful sense of freedom and vitality that has captivated viewers for centuries. The sculpture embodies movement and joie de vivre, characteristic of the faun — a mythological figure associated with nature and the celebrations in honor of Dionysus.
This bronze statue has been produced using the traditional lost-wax casting technique. It is made from a cast taken from the original mold created in the early twentieth century by the historic Fonderia Chiurazzi of Naples. The Chiurazzi foundry was renowned not only for monumental works but also for high-quality reproductions of masterpieces from major museums, supplying the flourishing Grand Tour market of the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
This particular piece features a distinctive Pompeian green patina. The patina is achieved by heating the bronze over an open flame and applying nitric acid and copper by brush, creating its characteristic antique green tone and enhancing the depth and authenticity of the surface.
