Very rare promotional poster created by Marcel Salinas on behalf of Pablo Picasso to promote his 1969 Imaginary Portraits suite. Will be shipped unframed along with certificate of authenticity on gallery letterhead. Imaginary Portraits was a 1969 lithograph portfolio based on Picasso’s famed cardboard paintings. It was published in Paris and New York in a 500-copy limited edition. Posters based on this suite were created two years later with the help of lithographer Marcel Salinas; he relied on his expertise and intuition to recreate the works with Picasso’s authorization, but without his supervision. They met only after completion, when Picasso was 87 years old. It is said that during their brief meeting, Picasso green-lit Salinas’ interpretation and lamented fame’s isolating effects.
