This work depicts Nekoyanagi (pussy willow), which heralds the arrival of early spring. It features pussy willows budding in the remaining cold, along with a woman in the center against the background. The composition uses a contrast of blue and red with thick outlines and coloring.

Artist Profile:
Born in Ibaraki Prefecture in 1921.
In 1968, invited to exhibit at the 6th International Biennial Exhibition of Prints.
Produced numerous picture books and kirie (paper-cutouts).
Passed away in 2009.
