Very beautiful and rare fetish from the Kusu people, the Democratic Republic of Congo. Kusu fetishes are stylistically very close to Songye fetishes. This is an exceptional and strongly stylized carving, depicting a male figure, hands resting on the abdomen around the navel with a heart-shaped face. The head is surmounted by a summit loaded with magical substances and plant fibres. the sculpture retains its original fabric skirt. A piece with a powerful presence.
15 cm high
Overall in good condition, with wear consistent with age. There is a small hole on the back that was used to hang it. It can stand but would benefit from a base. A unique and magical collector's piece.
