The Rolling Stones – Aftermath – UK Stereo Press –
“Early UK pressing from the first production phase, with original -1W lacquer on Side 1 and early -2W recut on Side 2.”
UNPLAYED MINT – Rare Purple Shadow Cover
Provenance & Story:
The record was acquired from the private collection of an 81-year-old gentleman with a background in the music industry. I originally contacted him to purchase a Tandberg reel-to-reel tape recorder for spare parts. Upon meeting, he offered me his entire collection of 500 vinyl records. While I wasn't looking for a large collection, I spotted a few gems that had been kept in pristine condition since the 1960s. This Aftermath was one of the stand-out pieces—received by him directly upon its release in 1966 and never played.
Technical Specifications & Identifiers:
Release: Genuine UK 1st Stereo Pressing (1966)
Catalog Number: SKL 4786
Matrix / Runout (Side 1): XZAL-7209-1W (Earliest 1W cut)
Matrix / Runout (Side 2): XZAL-7210-2W
Mother/Stamper: 2 / B (Stamper "B" = No. 1 in Decca’s code).
Labels: Iconic "Unboxed" Blue/Silver Decca labels with "Deep Groove" and J/T tax code.
Condition Report:
Vinyl: NM (Unplayed). Flawless archive-grade disc. No spindle marks or hairlines. Some miner paper scufs noticed after a closer look a very strong light.
Sleeve: NEAR MINT. Earliest "Purple Shadow" variant by Robert Stace with Clarifoil lamination. Incredibly crisp, white spine—virtually impossible to find in this condition.
