"Dieter Blum has worked as a freelance photographer in the fields of culture and reportage since 1964, contributing to magazines such as Der Spiegel, Stern, Time, and Vanity Fair. He lives and works in Düsseldorf. In the early 1980s, he photographed the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra under the direction of Herbert von Karajan. In addition to producing two photo books on the Berlin Philharmonic—one published in 1983 during Herbert von Karajan’s tenure and another in 2007 to mark the orchestra’s 125th anniversary—he accompanied the orchestra on its travels for more than 25 years. He has also created books about former German Chancellor Gerhard Schröder and Karlheinz Böhm’s work in Africa. Blum has dedicated several publications to dance photography, including books on Vladimir Malakhov as well as the volumes Ecstasy I, II and III, Pure Dance, and Dance and Eros I and II."
