Markings & Identification
Left Side of Shank: Stamped with "STANWELL" over "REGD. No. 969-48" (the historic Danish registration number), followed by the series name "ROYAL ROUGE".
Right Side of Shank: Stamped with "FINE BRIAR" and the shape number "278".
Stem: Features the iconic stamped Stanwell "S" logo on the side of the saddle mouthpiece.
Design & Shape
Shape 278: A beautifully proportioned bent/half-bent Egg or Brandy variant with a comfortable saddle-style stem, designed for a pleasant hand-feel and easy clenching.
Made from quality Danish Fine Briar with a classic, smooth polished finish.
Condition
Bowl & Rim: The briar shows a deep, aged patina with some natural surface scuffs, light dings, and minor rim darkening from honest use, adding to its vintage character. No structural cracks.
Stem: The black mouthpiece is in good estate condition, displaying light oxidation and minor tooth chatter consistent with age, but still fits snugly into the mortise.
