Vintage 1983’s SEIKO Type II 8223-8090 Tile textured-brick pattern Dial SGP ST. Steel Back Matching Gold Metal Band New battery replaced Excellent condition KQ230
The "SEIKO TYPE II [8223-8090]" is a vintage quartz men's wristwatch by Suwa Seikosha 諏訪精工舎produced. The Seiko Type II series was introduced during the late 1970s as Seiko's premium mid-range quartz collection. It occupooo the market segment between the basic quartz watches and the higher-end Quartz King, Grand Quartz and Superior models.
From approximately 1976 to 1984, the Type II series became one of Seiko's most successful domestic-market quartz lines. At its peak in 1979 there were almost one hundred different Type II models in the catalog. The watches became popular because they combined: Japanese-made quartz precision/Excellent reliability/Elegant dress styling/Very high manufacturing quality for their price.
The 8223-8090 is among the more attractive references thanks to its textured "linen/tile brick" dial, which collectors actively seek today.
This model No: 8223-8090 with original textured silver dial, sharp applied indices, original handset and clean Kanji/English day wheel has original silver textured dial featuring a radial uncommon tile-textured brick-pattern that produces a dynamic light effect. Applied indices and polished hands remain crisp, showcasing the high level of dial craftsmanship characteristic of late-1970s Seiko Type II models. Dial appears to be a textured tile/brick/waffle pattern consisting of tiny rectangular blocks arranged in vertical columns across the entire dial. Collectors variously describe this specific 8223-8090 dial as "tile textured," "brick pattern," "waffle," or "pin-grid" depending on lighting and photography. What makes this dial special is because of ①True three-dimensional texture ②The pattern is physically stamped into the dial, not merely printed. ③Light catches the tiny rectangular cells differently, creating depth and a shimmering effect. ④Very late-1970s Japanese design
During the early quartz era, Seiko experimented with sophisticated dial textures to showcase manufacturing capability. Many Type II models had plain dials but textured examples like this model are far more distinctive. Excellent contrast is shown as the black baton markers and hands stand out sharply against the textured silver background. The framed day-date window balances the dial visually. Dial originality appears consistent with original factory finish. Texture is unusually well-preserved. Printing looks crisp. Hands and markers appear correct for the reference.
Such premium features enhance to attract many vintage Seiko collectors prefer
textured white/silver dials, linen dials, brick-pattern dials over plain sunburst versions because the texture remains visible even when the watch is not directly under bright light.
The case is still sharp, and the original bracelet is present, 8223-8090 is the sort of vintage Seiko enthusiasts usually stop and examine more closely than a standard plain-dial Type II

■Third party’s comment/evaluation on the photo of the watch and inside movement
Overall Condition Overall Grade: 9.3/10 (Excellent Collector Grade)
This is one of the nicer 1983 Seiko Type II 8223-8090 examples I have seen. It appears to be an honest, well-preserved watch rather than one that has been heavily refinished.
1. Dial Grading (9.8/10): This is the highlight of the watch. Excellent points: The white "tile/brick" textured dial is exceptionally clean. The texture remains sharp across the entire dial. No signs of moisture staining. No discoloration around the day-date window.
The printed "SEIKO QUARTZ" and "TYPE II" lettering remains crisp. Applied gold hour markers retain their original finish. Collectors usually pay a premium for these textured dials because they are less common than the plain silver versions.
2. Hands Grading (9.5/10): The original baton hands appear genuine. No visible corrosion.
Black inlay remains intact. Gold center hub is clean. Second hand looks straight and correctly aligned.
3. Crystal Grading (9.2/10): The crystal shows only light age-related wear. I do not see:
deep scratches/chips/cracks/edge damage
A light professional polish would likely improve its appearance even further.
4. Gold-Plated Case Grading (9.0/10): The SGP case has survived very well.
Positive points: Strong gold color remains. Sharp integrated 1980s case shape. No major dents. Lugs remain well defined.
Minor observations: Small plating wear around the lower edges. Slight rubbing near the crown side. Tiny marks consistent with normal use over 40+ years.
For an SGP case, this level of preservation is better than average.
5. Crown Grading (9.3/10):The crown appears original. It sits correctly against the case and shows no obvious replacement or excessive wear.
6. Bracelet Grading (9.5/10): The mesh bracelet is another strong point. It appears to be:
périod correct/clean/free from stretching/clasp functioning normally/The woven mesh style matches the elegant Type II design very well.
Even if not factory-original, it is an excellent period-correct combination.
7. Movement Grading (9.7/10): The movement photograph is particularly reassuring.
Excellent observations : No battery leakage. Bright copper coil. Clean circuit board. Original Seiko battery clamp. No visible corrosion. Movement appears untouched.
The Cal. 8223 is one of Seiko's most dependable quartz movements, and this example looks very healthy.
8. Case Back Grading (9.3/10): The outside case back remains sharp. The engraving is still easily readable. Opening marks are minimal. That usually indicates careful servicing over the years.
9. Inside of Case Back Grading (Very Good): The inside photo is useful. The handwritten Japanese service marks (such as "HOK" and other notes) are typical watchmaker service markings. They often indicate: battery replacement dates, service checks, or technician initials. These markings do not reduce collector value and are common on vintage Japanese watches that have been maintained. The inside surface shows: no rust, no heavy oxidation,
no evidence of water intrusion. This is another positive sign.
Overall originality is approximately 95%+.
Collector Appeal: This reference is desirable because it combines: Attractive integrated early-1980s case design. Rare white textured "brick" dial. Reliable Cal. 8223 quartz movement. Gold-tone dress styling. Day-Date display. Slim profile suitable for everyday wear.
Among the Type II family, textured-dial models such as the 8223-8090 generally attract more collector interest than plain-dial variants.

Final Comments: This is a very attractive and well-preserved 1983 Seiko Type II. The combination of the rare tile-textured white dial, matching gold-tone bracelet, clean Cal. 8223 movement, and minimal plating wear makes it a stronger-than-average example. It is especially appealing to collectors who appreciate the high-quality finishing of Seiko's late-1970s quartz era. Keeping the original bracelet, avoiding unnecessary polishing, and replacing the case-back gasket during battery changes will help preserve both its condition and collector value.
