Masaichi - Contenitore / scatola da tè - Legno - Hinode-nami Design

Item Description This is a natsume, a traditional Japanese tea caddy used in the tea ceremony (chanoya) to store powdered matcha. The piece is finished in fine black urushi lacquer, with the interior of the lid rendered in vivid red lacquer as a striking contrast. The exterior is decorated with a hiramaki-e design depicting a rising sun above rolling waves, executed in gold and silver lacquer with fine linear detailing. The motif, known as hinode-nami (sunrise over waves), is a classical and auspicious design frequently found on fine lacquerware associated with the tea ceremony. The natsume is accompanied by its original wooden tomobako storage box. The right-hand side of the box bears an inscription reading "日の出波" (Hinode-nami, "Sunrise Waves"), along with the signature "政一" (Masaichi) and an accompanying seal, identifying the maker or the design attribution.
