It is the 3rd release from the collection *Kanō-ha & Rinpa Kyoshō Sen (狩野派・琳派巨匠撰)*, reproduced after the original wall screen painting created by Kanō Tanyū (狩野探幽) for Nijō Castle (二条城). The original work was an official screen painting commissioned by the Tokugawa shogunate, completed in the 3rd year of the Kan'ei era (宽永三年，1626). It is a representative auspicious kachō-e (花鳥絵) bridging the Momoyama and early Edo periods. The artwork features a full grid gold leaf background, with an aged, gnarled pine tree stretching horizontally across the composition. A fierce eagle perches firmly on the rugged trunk; its layered plumage, sharp talons and piercing gaze are rendered with meticulous detail. Dense clusters of delicate green pine needles fill the foreground. Pine trees and eagles are classic auspicious motifs in Japanese art, symbolizing lofty aspirations, dignity, honour and longevity. The original painting once decorated the grand audience hall of Nijō Castle, standing as a vital artistic emblem of the Tokugawa samurai regime’s authority. This facsimile was produced using the traditional multi-block woodblock printing method. Separate woodblocks were carved for the gold ground, sumi ink, emerald green and sepia brown layers. The master blocks were cut by professional carver Sugiya Sadao (植谷貞雄), with all hand printing completed by master printer Yoneda Zōzō (米田蔵造). The print faithfully recreates Kanō Tanyū’s bold, weighty brushwork characteristic of samurai-period painting, with highly precise replication of fine pine needle linework, layered eagle feathers and weathered pine bark texture. The warm, lustrous gold leaf backdrop fully captures the solemn, opulent atmosphere of original Edo-period palace screen paintings. Vertical lettering reading *Tanseisha Ban (丹青社版)*, alongside the names of the carver and printer, is printed along the left margin of the print. The complete set includes the original yellow titled storage sleeve, green series outer cover, and an official explanatory booklet authored by Nakamura Keinan (中村溪男), Senior Researcher at Tokyo National Museum. The booklet records full historical context, creation background and symbolic meaning of the original painting, offering complete traceable provenance for this reproduction.
