About the artist:
Jelena Kundich believes that painting begins with observation. Not the observation of objects, but of the quiet forces that shape our experience of the world - the movement of light across a surface, the rhythm of changing horizons, the presence of air, and the dialogue between stillness and motion.
For her, nature is not a collection of forms to be depicted, but a living process of constant transformation. Light shifts, the atmosphere changes, the horizon is never the same twice. Rather than reproducing what is visible, she explores why these subtle changes affect us so deeply and why certain places remain in our memory long after we have left them.
Working with layered acrylic and mixed media, she allows each painting to evolve gradually through intuition and observation. Every surface records a dialogue between material, gesture and time, inviting the viewer to slow down, breathe, and discover a personal connection with the work.
Her works have been presented in solo exhibitions at Skandi Motors Riga, Verde, Jelgavas Kultūras Nams, and Riga Plaza, as well as in group exhibitions including Wings of Riga, Riga Furniture & Interior 2025 - Artist Runway, and Teika Plaza.
