Sveglia - Peter Space Age Plastica - 1970-1980 - Digital Jump Hour

Peter Digital mechanical jump-hour alarm clock, manufactured in Germany, most likely during the 1970s. This highly distinctive model is a fine example of German Space Age and Pop Design. Its compact, softly rounded body combines a glossy black case with a bold yellow front surround and matching yellow alarm-stop button. The strong contrast, sculptural shape and futuristic direct-reading display give the clock the appearance of a small piece of 1970s industrial design. Despite the word “digital” printed on the dial, this is not an electronic clock. The time is displayed mechanically: the hour appears through a central window on a rotating numeral drum, while the minutes are shown on a separate revolving disc with five-minute markings. This unusual system is more accurately described as a mechanical direct-read or jump-hour display, rather than a conventional flip clock. The black dial is crossed by a fine horizontal white line and features the characteristic lower-case “digital” lettering in a distinctly modernist typeface. The hour numerals and minute markings are coated with luminous material and glow green in darkness after exposure to light, as shown in the photographs. The rear retains its original mechanical controls, including separate winders for the clock and alarm, time and alarm-setting controls, and a fast/slow rate regulator. The upper yellow button operates the alarm stop mechanism. Peter-Uhren GmbH was a well-known German clock manufacturer particularly associated with mechanical alarm and table clocks. The company operated from the early 20th century and produced clocks in Niedereschbach and later in Rottweil. Peter became especially recognised for its reliable mechanical movements and for the imaginative plastic-cased designs it introduced during the 1960s and 1970s. The company remained active until the 1990s. Today, its more unconventional Space Age models are increasingly appreciated by collectors of post-war German design. The alarm clock is completely functional: both the timekeeping mechanism and the alarm have been tested and work correctly. It remains in good vintage condition, with light traces of age and use, including minor surface marks and small signs of wear to the yellow and black casing. These do not detract from its strong overall appearance. Please examine all photographs carefully, as they form an integral part of the description. Dimensions: Width: approximately 11 cm Height: approximately 10 cm Depth: approximately 7 cm A rare and visually striking mechanical alarm clock, ideal for collectors of Space Age design, 1970s interiors, German clocks and mechanical digital displays The item offered is original, vintage, and pre-owned, and is described accurately and in good faith. Before listing, the item is carefully cleaned, tested, and documented with detailed photographs and, where applicable, a video showing its actual condition and functionality. All functions mentioned in the description are tested and verified and are tested again before shipment as a final quality check. Photographs form an integral part of the description and accurately represent the condition of the item at the time of listing. As this is a vintage item, minor signs of age and normal wear are to be expected and are consistent with its age. Any structural damage, missing parts, or non-functioning features are clearly disclosed in the description and/or visible in the images. Colours may vary slightly due to lighting conditions and screen settings. The item will be professionally packed using protective materials, and double-boxed where appropriate. Shipping is tracked and insured. The item is handed over to the carrier in the same condition as documented prior to dispatch. In the unfortunate case of damage during transport the buyer is invited to follow Catawiki’s guidelines in a timely manner. The buyer is responsible for providing a correct shipping address and for collecting the parcel within the carrier’s specified timeframe. In case of non-collection, refusal of delivery, or incorrect address, Catawiki’s applicable procedures and conditions will apply. By placing a bid, the buyer confirms that they have carefully read the description and reviewed all images. This is a vintage mechanical timepiece. Due to its age and original components, slight variations in performance, accuracy, or behaviour may occur over time, even if fully functional at the time of testing.
