Horst P. Horst (1906–1999) was one of the most influential fashion photographers of the twentieth century. Born as Horst Paul Albert Bohrmann in Weißenfels, Germany, he studied architecture before moving to Paris in 1930, where he became an assistant to Le Corbusier. Soon afterwards he met the legendary Vogue photographer George Hoyningen-Huene, who introduced him to fashion photography.

Horst began working for French Vogue in 1931 and quickly established his unmistakable style, characterized by dramatic lighting, classical composition and timeless elegance. During a career spanning more than six decades he photographed leading designers including Chanel, Schiaparelli, Vionnet and Mainbocher, as well as many of the twentieth century's most celebrated personalities. His iconic photograph Mainbocher Corset (1939) is regarded as one of the defining images in the history of fashion photography.

During the 1980s Horst revisited many of his most important negatives, producing highly sought-after platinum/palladium prints for collectors and museums. These prints are considered among the finest interpretations of his work and are significantly rarer than later estate prints. Horst died in Palm Beach, Florida, in 1999. His photographs are held in major museum collections worldwide and continue to be exhibited internationally.
