SCARCE OPPORTUNITY to purchase this SCARCE and HIGHLY IMPRESSIVE German photobook from 1980 - in BRANDNEW CONDITION. This still widely unknown and highly underrated photobook documents in 29 black and white photos the funeral of "RAF" ("Rote Armee Fraktion")-terrorists Andreas Baader, Gudrun Ensslin and Jan-Carl Raspe on 27 October 1977 at the Dornhalden cemetery in Stuttgart, the martial police deployment and the press build-up against the assembled mourners. 'It certainly has its place in the history of protest photography books.' (Andreas Bitesnich on 'achtung.photography'). New, mint, unread - COLLECTOR'S COPY. Welcome to the ONE-SELLER-AUCTION by Ecki Heuser, 5Uhr30.com (Cologne, Germany) on Catawiki - this time presenting a BEST-OF „GERMAN PHOTOBOOKS“. 'For the first time I felt ashamed when I was taking pictures.' - Max Dans - 'When we saw the pictures, we realised that what was fleetingly presented to us on television from the funeral and routinely served up in the newspaper was an initial stage of counter-terror. We believe there is a need for public mourning over a public mourning in which we were merely allowed to be the unconscious patients of a large-scale cancer operation.' - Lothar Beck and Max Dans - (in the afterword of the publication) Like always 5Uhr30.com guarantees detailed and accurate descriptions, 100% transport protection, 100% transport insurance and of course combined shipping - worldwide. Internationalismus Verlag, Hannover. 1980 First edition, first and only printing. Paperback (as issued). 246 x 277 mm. 29 black and white photos. 80 pages. 2 pages text by Lothar Beck and Max Dans. 2 pages text by the publisher. Text in German. Great, deeply impressive German protest photobook - in perfect condition. Unpaginated photobook dedicated "allen noch lebenden Widerstandskämpfern des Dritten Reiches", comprised of approximately 29 black-and-white images from the funeral of three members of the RAF, each accompanied by a short explanatory text on the opposite page, with some pages of just text taken from contemporary newspaper reports, the images depicting the open graves and graveside before and during the funeral, as it becomes a public spectacle and the cemetery fills with spectators and media. On October 27th, 1977, photographer Max Dans attended the funeral of Andreas Baader, Gudrun Ensslin, and Jan-Carl Raspe, three founders and leaders of the "RAF" ("Rote Armee Fraktion") who allegedly committed collective suicide while in prison. They were jailed for allegedly orchestrating several bombings, which caused the deaths of four people. Most media coverage of the funeral ignored the presence of a large police force, and Dans wanted to provide a different perspective. While examining the photographs later with his friend Lothar Beck, a priest, they came up with the idea to produce this photobook.
