Descrizione del venditore
An absolute masterclass in 20th-century Japanese textile art. This is a rare, museum-grade original mixed-media applique collage by the legendary Japanese artist Ayako Miyawaki (1905-1995). Celebrated internationally—including a landmark solo exhibition at the National Museum of Women in the Arts (NMWA) in 1991—Miyawaki completely revolutionized the art of cloth pictures (Harie) by masterfully hand-stitching reclaimed vintage textiles, rags, and historic kimono fabrics into poetic, minimalist representations of nature. This exquisite composition depicts a marine threadfish with shimmering, textured layers that dynamically catch the light. Authenticated on the front with her traditional red seal stamp (Hanko), and fully signed and titled in elegant black ink calligraphic kanji on the reverse, alongside her Western-style hand-written signature "Ayako. MiYaWaKi.". A top-tier investment piece for elite modernist galleries and serious collectors of Asian avant-garde textile arts. [Technical Specifications & Condition] Artistic Quality: Outstanding, highly intricate stitch-work. The contrasting metallic-silver and dense fabric textures on the fish body reflect Miyawaki's signature organic design principles. Condition Details: The central textile artwork is preserved in excellent vintage condition with beautifully preserved textures and crisp fiber layout. Housed in its original mid-century wooden mounting and characteristic distressed black-lacquered frame, which displays honest vintage wear and aging, fully proving its mid-to-late 20th-century heritage. Condition: Very Good / Excellent; Artist (Artista): Ayako Miyawaki (1905-1995); Technique (Tecnica): Original hand-stitched textile applique and mixed media collage on raw linen base; Period: Mid-to-late 20th Century (1960–1980); Signature/Marks: Red artist Hanko seal on the front; Handwritten calligraphic kanji signature and English signature "Ayako. MiYaWaKi." on the wooden reverse. Print size cm. 27,5 x cm. 42.
The lot will be appropriately packaged and shipped via approved couriers with online tracking. This lot cannot be shipped outside the European Union.
