Vaso - Gres - Giappone - Suzuki Goro (鈴木五郎, 1941–) - Motivo a linee incise

Item Description This work is an ash-glazed flower vase by Suzuki Goro (鈴木五郎, 1941–), one of Japan's prominent ceramic artists. A cylindrical neck rises from a rounded, full-bodied form, with the rim flaring outward. The shoulders are adorned with small vestigial lugs (handle-like decorative elements) of the kind seen on traditional Japanese ceramics. A thick ash glaze flows naturally across the entire vessel, pooling and crazing over incised decorations, while areas where the glaze thins reveal earth-toned hues of ochre, olive green, and rust. This rich, heavily crazed surface is characteristic of the artist's hand-built forming technique and ash-glaze firing in a wood-burning kiln, and is not the result of damage. This work is accompanied by a tomobako (wooden storage box) bearing the artist's own inscription, as well as a shiori (an attached paper information card). Dimensions Height: 25 cm Width: 18 cm Depth: 15 cm Weight 1922 g Condition This work is intact, and no chips, cracks, or losses have been identified. The rich, heavily crazed texture of the surface derives from the artist's ash-glaze technique and is not damage. Please refer to the photographs for details (this item has been assessed by visual inspection only). Artist Profile Suzuki Goro was born in 1941 in Toyota City, Aichi Prefecture. He is known as an artist who brought a fresh and innovative perspective to the world of classical Oribe ware. The sources of his creativity lie in traditional styles — particularly the Mino ware traditions of the Momoyama and Edo periods — and he is highly regarded for his works in Oribe, Shino, and Kiseto. Suzuki reinvented the aesthetic of classical Oribe ware through his own inventive approach. His most groundbreaking technique is known as yobitsugi (呼継, patchwork), which reflects his playful sensibility. The style in which he merges traditional techniques with his own individuality is often referred to as "Goribe (五利部)," a coined term combining the "Go (五)" from "Goro," the "Ri (利)" from "Rikyu," and the "Be (部)" from "Oribe." He received the Aichi Prefecture Governor's Award at the Asahi Ceramic Art Exhibition in 1961, and won the top prize at the same exhibition in 1966. He also served as a visiting researcher at overseas art institutions on two occasions, in 1975 and 1982, and received the Japan Ceramic Society Award in 2001. Suzuki's works have been exhibited extensively throughout Japan and are held in the collections of museums both domestically and internationally. In 2015, a major retrospective exhibition, "Living in Clay, Playing in Clay," was held at the Menard Art Museum. He enjoys high regard among collectors in Japan and is also respected by artists and enthusiasts abroad, with a career spanning more than 40 years. NOITICE: The lot will be carefully packaged and sent by Japan Post, DHL or FedEx depend on the situation. It takes about 3 weeks to receive normally.
