This impressive antique mahogany secretaire bureau-cabinet combines storage, display and writing functions in a highly decorative form. The upper section features a large fitted compartment with architectural arched niches, small drawers and original-style glazing/display areas, while the lower section contains multiple drawers and a substantial fall-front writing surface. The rich mahogany veneer has attractive figuring and warm reddish-brown tones, complemented by turned columns, mouldings and brass fittings. The piece appears to date approximately to the mid-19th century, around 1840–1870, although construction details should be examined to establish its exact origin. Its unusual interior makes it particularly attractive to collectors.
