SNG Copenhagen 169-170. Elaia was an ancient Greek city of Aeolis on the western coast of Anatolia. A member of the Delian League in the 5th century BC, it later became the principal harbour and naval base of the Attalid Kingdom of Pergamon. Its position on the Gulf of Elaia supported maritime trade and military activity. The city’s coinage, often featuring Athena and olive motifs, reflected its civic identity and close connection with Pergamon.
