giampaolo parrilla - Green Lotus n 54
Green Lotus n 54. XL (150x100cm, 2024)
Giampaolo Parrilla's new series of paintings presents a study of flowers, specifically the Protea plant, a flower native to Central Africa and the Congo Basin. These flowers possess various resilient characteristics, including being fireproof, having thorns, and having an intoxicating scent.
Presented in a monumental and immersive manner, these vibrant and colorful paintings represent a new direction for the artist, who experiments with enlargement and zoom as new tools of pictorial representation and distortion, interpreting images with his characteristic approach of categorization, division into parts, and movement.
This new series continues the artist's exploration of Lucretius's De Rerum Natura, a work he has explored for years, focusing on its main themes: the movement of bodies, the atomism of beings, and the progression (florescere) and regression (senescere) of parts. These new works specifically explore Lucretius's theme of renewal, with flowers that continually bloom and fade, open and close, and behold themselves in their monumentality, in a perpetual, zero-sum transformation of reality.
The current works exploit the vivid, poisonous colors of Protea plants—acidic, strident—to propose a new idea of the power of flowers, combined with an intuitive and fresh approach to pictorial matter. In this series, in particular, the artist worked on the works simultaneously, moving from one piece to the next and constantly establishing new connections and references between them.
Each painting changes alongside the others, each fragment mixes and rearranges itself
autonomously.
In this series, the artist aims to reproduce what Lucretius affirms in his text: the universe is constantly renewed, mortal creatures live reciprocal lives, and like
relays, they pass the torch.
The artwork is shipped in a professionally sealed PVC shipping tube. The artwork is shipped rolled, unstretched, and unframed. The artwork comes with a certificate of authenticity hand-signed by the artist.
