I have felt a growing need to turn my back on the world around me; the world of straight lines, facts, schedules and everything that needs to be efficient and functional. So much of everyday life is about moving quickly, getting things done and knowing what comes next. There is very little room for simply looking, imagining or not knowing. My paintings have become a way of stepping outside that pressure for certainty. It takes courage to stop planning, to put aside what I have seen or remembered, and to allow the image to emerge through the process itself. A colour leads to another colour, a shape suggests another shape, and something unexpected begins to appear. For me, this is a return to something more human. In a world that constantly asks us to be faster and more efficient, a need for optimisation of health, time, work and beauty, painting gives me permission to slow down, to trust instinct and to let something exist without needing to be explained or made useful. An act of resistance against imposed outcomes, a search for freedom of thought and expression. .
