Incoming is a major photobook by acclaimed Irish artist Richard Mosse
This exceptional 576-page volume documents Mosse’s groundbreaking Incoming project, created using a powerful military-grade thermal camera normally associated with surveillance and weapons systems. The technology can detect the human body from a distance of up to approximately 30.3 km, rendering people and landscapes as haunting monochromatic heat signatures.

The book follows journeys of refugees and migrants across the Middle East, North Africa and Europe, including scenes from Syria, Libya, Turkey and the Sahara, confronting themes of displacement, conflict, borders, surveillance, mortality and the fragile nature of human life.

The resulting images are extraordinary: simultaneously beautiful, disturbing and deeply unsettling. By adopting the visual language of military surveillance, Mosse challenges the viewer to consider how technology can transform human beings into anonymous biological traces and how contemporary conflicts and migration are represented.

The book contains 280 metallic tritone plates and includes texts by Richard Mosse and renowned philosopher Giorgio Agamben. It reproduces still frames from Mosse’s acclaimed multi-channel video installation Incoming, created in collaboration with cinematographer Trevor Tweeten and composer Ben Frost.

The work received considerable international acclaim and the related Heat Maps series won the 2017 Prix Pictet. Incoming was also praised by Artforum as “the best book of 2017”.

Condition
The book is new, unopened and preserved in its original publisher's cellophane. It has never been handled or read.
Please note: the book has a small, localized compression/bend affecting one corner/edge on the back cover, visible in the photographs. The cellophane is correspondingly creased in this area. This is the only condition issue to note.
As the copy offered here remains completely sealed, the interior photographs were taken from the seller's personal copy of the same edition and are shown solely to illustrate the contents and artwork.
