Commodus (161–192 AD) was a Roman emperor, the son of Marcus Aurelius, who reigned from 180 to 192. His rule was marked by authoritarianism, instability, and a passion for gladiatorial combat, in which he personally participated. Becoming increasingly unpopular, he was ultimately assassinated in a plot involving the Senate and his own guard.
