Gennaro Santaniello - Sweet Memory – Reclaimed Icons Series
Sweet Memory is an original oil painting from my Reclaimed Icons series, a body of work focused on familiar objects of mass culture and the traces left on them by human use.
The Nutella jar is presented as an everyday icon: instantly recognizable, mass-produced and connected to gestures repeated in millions of homes. Yet once used, the object is no longer completely identical to all the others. Marks, remaining contents and small imperfections become traces of an individual experience.
In Reclaimed Icons, I am interested in this transition: the moment when an industrial object acquires a personal history. Consumption leaves a human imprint, transforming something designed to be replaceable into something unique.
With Sweet Memory, this transformation also carries an emotional dimension. A familiar jar can evoke childhood, domestic rituals and personal memories, turning an ordinary consumer object into a small contemporary relic.
