A traditional Yemeni or Somali hirz (or xirsi) amulet necklace, centred by a rectangular metal amulet box decorated with applied wirework and granulated details, set with a red cabochon and hung with multiple chains and small bell-shaped pendants. The necklace was later strung with coral beads. Hirz amulets were traditionally worn as protective talismans and could contain written prayers or sacred texts.
Dating to the early 20th century, circa 1920s–1930s.
Condition:
Good antique condition overall, with some dents to the metal section and minor age-related wear, oxidation and patination. Some irregularity to the hanging chains and bells consistent with age and use.
