Rare native Romanian electrum gold. From the famous Rosia Montana deposits.
The sample weighs 13 grams. The conservative estimate of the gold in the sample is at least 4.5500 grams. Therefore, the reserve price is tied to the current gold price. The gold is also present inside the matrix, not just the visible one. These are fine, small crystals that form a sponge-like aggregate. This is a typical cluster found in these veins. These veins, which yielded samples of this type of gold, were the richest. They range in width from a few hundred meters to a few dozen centimeters.
The matrix is the classic Dacite of these areas. The mines closed in 2005.
This piece comes from an old collection.
The sample was washed only with soap and water to maintain its original appearance when mined. With professional cleaning, the gold would become much brighter and yellower. But this is how the Romans found it 2,000 years ago.
