Descrizione del venditore

Paul Kleinschmidt (1883–1949).

"Don Quixote." Original etching on thick cardstock, 1919.

Hand-signed with a monogram, dated, and inscribed in pencil by the artist: "Fehlplatte abgeschliffen..." [Flawed plate ground down...].
Identified as a trial proof by the artist in pencil on the print (1–6, no. 3). A unique impression, as is the case with all these early proofs by the German artist.
Verso bears the small collection stamp of Siegbert Marzynski ("SM").

Sheet size: 34 x 25 cm.

In very good condition, given its age. Features marks inherent to the artist’s printing process.

Antique wooden frame with glass, 35 x 27.5 cm. Shows minimal marks and imperfections.

The final portfolio, containing eight etchings from the *Don Quixote* series, was published in 1919 by I. B. Neumann in Berlin.

A gem.

Kleinschmidt exhibited his early works at group shows of the Berlin Secession. His complex body of work is now considered part of the Weimar-era Expressionist movement. Some of his pieces were confiscated and included in the 1937 "Degenerate Art" exhibition in Munich.
