New York Beat" is a collection of works by Brooklyn-based graphic artist Jean-Michel Basquiat, a legendary painter who died of acute drug addiction at the age of 27. A painter without a studio who could express his art anywhere, Basquiat was a close friend and collaborator of Andy Warhol, and was a central figure in the downtown art scene of the 1980s. This book is a visual book of the legendary film “Downtown 81,” which was shot in early 1980 when Basquiat was only 20 years old, and was put into storage due to the bankruptcy of its backers.
