Rare Early Vintage GUB Glashütte Automatic 23 Jewels – In-house Caliber 67.1 – 20-Micron Gold-Plated – Circa 1959 – Made in Germany
Up for auction is a rare and highly collectible piece of German watchmaking history: an early GUB Glashütte Automatic, powered by the sought-after in-house Caliber 67.1 movement with 23 jewels, produced in the late 1950s (circa 1959).
Predating the later "Spezimatic" era, the Caliber 67 family represents Glashütte’s iconic early development in automatic movements, making this an exceptional find for collectors of vintage German timepieces. Key Features and Specifications:
Brand: GUB Glashütte (Glashütte SA)
Model: Automat 23 Rubis
Movement Number / Date Code: Caliber 67.1 (Stamped "3609" beneath the balance wheel, indicating production in the third quarter of 1959)
Movement Type: Original in-house automatic movement with 23 jewels (23 Rubis) and shock protection (Stoßgesichert)
Case Material: Heavy case with a 20-micron gold-plated finish (Plaqué 20 Mikron)
Case Back: Screw-down stainless steel case back (Edelstahlboden) with stamped reference number 20949
Case Diameter: 33.6 mm (excluding the crown)
Dial: Beautiful original vintage dial in a champagne/white hue, featuring applied stylized gold Arabic numerals at the 2, 4, 8, and 10 o'clock positions, black-accented hour markers, and the inscription "GUB GLASHÜTTE/SA / AUTOMAT 23 RUBIS / MADE IN GERMANY"
Strap: Fitted with a new, high-quality brown strap featuring matching stitching.
Mechanics: In full working order; it winds easily, the automatic rotor spins freely and builds up the power reserve smoothly, and the movement keeps accurate vintage-standard time.
Aesthetics: The case has retained its thick 20-micron... Gold plating with a light, authentic patina consistent with its age. The original dial displays a delicate vintage patina, which highlights its mid-century authenticity.
Shipping and packaging: Fast, fully insured, and secure shipping with tracking.
