Descrizione del venditore
An exquisite English vanity set attributed to the prestigious London silversmiths William Comyns & Sons, a renowned name in British silver craftsmanship with a distinguished heritage dating back to 1859.
This elegant five-piece set comprises a hand mirror, two brushes, a rectangular accessory and a beautifully cut crystal jar with a matching enamelled lid.
Each piece is adorned with delicate sky-blue translucent Guilloché enamel, showcasing intricate geometric engine-turned patterns beneath the enamel surface, creating remarkable depth, luminosity and reflections.
The finely detailed floral motifs, ornate central medallions and elegant silver borders reflect the sophisticated taste and refinement of early 20th-century English luxury, combining classical decorative traditions with the elegance of the Art Deco period.
A Legacy of British Silversmithing
The prestigious history of William Comyns began in 1859, when the founder acquired the business of Robert Tagg, a craftsman associated with the celebrated royal goldsmiths Rundell, Bridge & Co.
In 1885, William's sons Charles and Richard joined the family business, further establishing its reputation for exceptional silverware and finely crafted luxury objects.
The firm continued to flourish throughout the early 20th century, becoming William Comyns & Sons Ltd. in 1930 under the direction of R. H. Comyns.
A beautiful example of traditional English luxury, combining the timeless appeal of sterling silver, the delicate brilliance of blue Guilloché enamel and the heritage of one of London's most distinguished silversmithing houses.
An elegant and highly decorative collector's piece, equally suited to a sophisticated dressing table or a curated collection of antique silver.
