Normal position (pressed down) Winding (forward) of the movement's cylinder; winding (back) of the chime cylinder. This may be done simultaneously or separately 2. In 2nd position (turned to the first notch). Setting the time of the chime hand (forward) 3. In 3rd position (turned to the 2nd notch). Setting the hour and minute hands The crown at 4 o'clock allows the alarm to be engaged (by pulling on the crown) and, by turning it a quarter turn, the choice between vibrations and chime (coloured indicator at 6 o'clock to show which is which) The 'alarm' chime is produced by a hammer striking a bell arranged around the bridges The 'reminder' vibration is obtained by disabling the bell Pierce was established in 1883 in Biel/Bienne under the name Léon Lévy & Frères In the 30s, Pierce developed his own calibres and supplied chronographs to the pilots of the Royal Air Force. In 1953 the sign π (pi) was added above the Pierce brand. In 1956, the company innovated once more with an alarm wristwatch, unique in that it could chime or vibrate. This is the Duofon model. The vibrating alarm allows the wearer to be notified with alerting those around him that he has placed a limit on his time or that he has something else to do. The movement is of an ultra-modern design for the period. The technical innovations of the Pierce Duo-fon are protected by Swiss and foreign patents.
