Hakushu distillery was founded half a century after Yamazaki's. Keizo Saji inherited his father's vision and quest for innovation and built this second Suntory distillery in 1973.
Keizo Saji, Suntory's second Master Blender, inherited his father's desire to push the boundaries of what Japanese whiskey could be. He had searched all over Japan for a high-quality water, which would become the most delicate and aromatic base for producing a popular whisky.
After doggedly searching mighty rivers and rugged mountains, he found Hakushu. Hakushu Distillery is undoubtedly one of the highest distilleries in the world and was built in the middle of the deepest forests of Mount Kaikomagatake in the southern Japanese Alps.
