Item Description: This is an antique Japanese Jingasa (陣笠), a lacquered war hat worn by lower-ranking samurai or ashigaru (foot soldiers) during the Edo period. Crafted in a classic conical form, this Jingasa is finished in black lacquer (kuro-urushi) on the exterior and features a striking gold crest consisting of two parallel bars. The interior is painted in vivid red lacquer (shu-nuri), bearing handwritten kanji characters—potentially identifying the wearer or the clan. The lacquer finish shows signs of age and wear, including minor chipping and surface abrasions, indicative of authentic use and historical value. This piece is both a military relic and an exceptional example of Japanese craftsmanship in traditional armor components.
