Jinkō-in (神光院) - Ido Masao 井堂雅夫 (1945-2016) - Giappone

Item Description: This captivating Japanese woodblock print is the work of renowned artist Masao Ido (井堂正雄), known for his serene and evocative landscapes. The piece is part of the celebrated "Kyoto Hyakkei" (京都百景 – One Hundred Views of Kyoto) series, and specifically from the subseries "Kitayama Jikkei" (北山十景 – Ten Views of Kitayama). This print depicts Jinkō-in (神光院), a tranquil temple nestled in a snow-covered garden, viewed from within a traditional Japanese interior. The composition masterfully balances nature and architecture, with snow-laden trees, a stone lantern, and a bamboo water basin in the foreground, contrasted by the structured vertical lines of the room's screen. The distant mountains shrouded in mist and the delicate snowfall evoke a profound sense of peace and timeless beauty—hallmarks of Ido's work. Printed with exquisite attention to detail and traditional techniques, this work is a fine representation of modern shin-hanga style. Artist's Comment: Jinko-in Founded by Kobo Daishi, Jinko-in is counted among the Three Kobo Temples alongside Toji and Ninnaji. I wanted to paint Jinko-in on a snowy day. With snow-capped Mount Hiei as a borrowed landscape, the gentle snow-covered garden centered around the stone lantern is beautiful. The shadows cast on the shoji screen in the foreground convey the warmth of a winter day. The ice on the temizu basin has begun to melt. Soon, the snow piled on the azaleas will melt too. I can hardly wait for the fresh green leaves to emerge. Size: Approximately 36 cm × 26 cm Artist Profile: Masao Ido (井堂正雄, 1945–2016) was a celebrated Japanese printmaker known for revitalizing traditional landscape woodblock printing in the postwar period. Based in Kyoto, he became widely admired for his serene portrayals of Japanese temples, gardens, and seasonal scenes. His work is characterized by its subtle color gradations, quiet atmospheres, and meticulous craftsmanship. Ido's prints are highly collectible and are featured in art collections worldwide. **PLEASE NOTE** Shipping Information: Items are shipped from Japan.
