Pseudo-Diary (First Printing) is a collection of photographs by Nobuyoshi Araki, a leading Japanese photographer. This book was published by Hakuya Shobo in 1980, but was preceded in the same year by another book, Nobuyoshi Araki's Pseudo-Reportage, and his work with editor Akira Suei in the late 1970s and 1980s, including this book, is notable. The dated snapshots, one per page, are arranged chronologically from 1 April 1979, giving the impression of a diary of that day's events, the last being in 1992. Araki used to change the date settings on his camera at the time, and this trickery may be the origin of the ‘false’ nature of the book. Although there is a lot of female nudity, the book also includes scenes of Araki's daily life, such as cityscapes, funerals and a scene from Seijun Suzuki's Zigoinelwaizen, which is the subject of the book's obi. In the end, the act of photography for me is to take pictures with dates. Photography is my life and my life, and a diary is a record of that day. I feel that the date is more suitable for me. 1st printing.
