In 2005, the Trappist Abbey of Saint Sixtus released this special Westvleteren XII gift set, originally intended for the American market as well as Belgium. However, only a very limited number ever made it to the U.S. – most were purchased immediately by collectors and enthusiasts at the airport, and virtually none were sold outside of Belgium. This particular set was acquired from a reputable private Belgian seller, who purchased it upon release and has carefully cellared until I bought 2018 and stored it in our cellar ever since. The set is 100% complete: six branded bottles of Westvleteren 12 (a true rarity, as the brewery’s bottles are normally label-free) along with two original Westvleteren glasses. A total of 69,000 sets were produced, and very few remain intact today. This is one of those rare surviving sets. The bottles have been stored properly in a dark cellar and are ready either for enjoyment or for preservation as a collector’s item.
