Unkown - Quran - India - 1548

A delightful miniature folio from an Indian Quran dated 1548/9. Consisting of the Chapter Header (Surah) written in red nashki and 12 lines of fine Nashki in black ink. The scripture is from the final verses of chapter 64, At-Tagabhun (Mutual Loss & Gain), together with the header and v.1 of chapter 65, At-Talaq (Divorce), which addresses the Prophet and believers about the proper way to divorce: to divorce at a time that allows them to count the waiting period (iddah), to not force the women out of their homes during that time, and to fear God. The final verses of chapter 64 are the test of family and wealth, reminding those who are fortunate in this world to respect their fortune, thank God and undertake charitable works in the name of God, for which the reward will come in the afterlife. The leaf is amazingly clear given its size. The scripture is written between gold clouds which separate the lines of text and contains simple gold 'aya' marking the individual verses. A single elaborate illuminated decorative marginal Juz marks the start of the new Chapter. Please note that shipping costs are not solely the cost of the postal delivery service itself. Included within the shipping price is the work undertaken to prepare the article, for photography, for uploading to Catawiki, for preparation and packaging the article securely and for transporting the article to the postal delivery agent for processing. Also, please consider when bidding on this lot that this artwork is shipped from the UK. Import duties will now have to be paid by the recipient to the Postal Service when the parcel arrives in your country. This will likely vary between 5% and 20% of the sale price depending on your country's Import Rate, so please check this if you are concerned. This is a Tax collected on behalf of your Government and is not an additional fee charged by us.
