A very beautiful pair of cast silver tapersticks, in a George II style with shell decoration and removable bobèches. These candlesticks hold small candles, also known as Hanukkah candles. Unlike larger candlesticks, which were intended to illuminate a room, tapersticks were small and used for more specific tasks. Tapersticks were often used for wax sealing — sealing a letter to secure its contents and ensure authenticity — or for lighting other candles.
