Kple-Kple Masks are worn in connection with Goli, a day-long spectacle that normally involves the whole village and includes the appearance of four pairs of masks, music, and, ideally, a great deal of palm wine. Goli can be performed both as an entertainment and for the funeral of important men. “Goli is a traditional African dance and masquerade of the Baoulé people of the Ivory Coast. The masks have complex symbolism. At each stage, one mask is "male" and another "female", although the differences between them are subtle, since they represent aspects of one individual.
