Horace Roye (1906–2002) and the photographer known as Vala were London-based pioneers of mid-century glamour photography. In the 1950s they co-invented the “Roye-Vala” 3D process and issued the Stereo Glamour Series—pocket books of nude and showgirl studies supplied with a Roye-Vala viewer—making their images a cult collectible. Roye, already famous for provocative pre-war nudes and censorship battles, brought polished lighting and bold staging; Vala’s studio craft helped translate that style into striking stereoscopic prints. Vintage Roye-Vala items (books, cards, and prints) are sought after for their innovative technique and iconic place in British popular photography.
