Vèronique Massenet (1945) is an artist formed at the Camondo design school in Paris, with decades of exhibitions in Europe and many awards to her credit (lately first prize for sculpture at the Genoa International Art Biennale, November 2023). Her sculptures always start from a single wooden trunk, considered as the original environment of a new life story. From the trunk, using chisels, she brings out different mobile elements, which however remain linked to each other, creating a dance of gestures and mutual relationships, evolving together in the search for new spaces and harmonies. The trunck is divided into closely complementary elements, driven by a new desire of growth and cohesion which leads them to reorganize themselves, expanding to achieve a new balance in space. In Massenet's works, the created elements seem to emerge naturally from the wood, with gestures and attitudes that make them like living beings with their own feelings and dreams. Wood is chosen precisely because it is a living material too, and even the grain of the wood is used to highlight the movements inside the elements.
