Romy van Rijckevorsel is a contemporary Dutch artist who has been living and working in Vlijmen since 2002. She was born in 1967 in Drunen and initially worked for many years as a portrait painter before enrolling at the Academy of Fine Arts in Arendonk, where she obtained her degree in Painting in 2017. In 2017, van Rijckevorsel started creating her own independent artworks, focusing on paintings. Her work is included in collections both in the Netherlands and abroad. My mother comes from a family of 15 (!) children (she was the youngest) and she always talked about what it was like to grow up in such a large family. For me, with only one older brother, these were always like fairy tales! I found all those stories beautiful and I love to incorporate them into my paintings. I never plan in advance what I am going to make, as I'm afraid it will become stiff and sticky. I'd rather start something without knowing the end; I love the spontaneity that then emerges on my canvas.
