Please note that the colors of the painting may vary slightly depending on the screen or device used to view the images. In water, the body loses its weight, yet paradoxically, we feel everything more vividly. Every shift of a muscle, every ripple against the skin is magnified. It is a space where the body is mass-less but never numb, light but in its entire fullness. Water Babes #2 is part of my Water Babes series which is an ode to the profound weightlessness of water, to the way it softens the heaviness of the world and dissolves the borders of the body. Each painting is born from the dream of floating like a sea creature: untethered, held, and at peace. Through WATER BABES, I explore this paradox: the surrender of gravity alongside the heightened awareness of the self. These works are a tribute to the wish to merge with water, to dissolve into its embrace, and to find stillness in motion. Water Babes #2 is created on unbleached, unironed cotton twill, allowing the natural character of the fabric to remain visible and alive. Layers of acrylic paint form the foundation of the piece, while oil pastel details add richness, softness, and depth of color. The hand-stitched cotton thread worked directly into the surface introduces subtle relief and movement, giving the artwork a tactile quality that invites closer looking. These stitched elements catch the light and bring a sense of volume, warmth, and quiet vitality to the composition. Growing up surrounded by curiosity and materials, she was always making and observing, a spirit that led her to fashion and textile design in Montevideo, where her interest in clothing as a language of identity brought early national recognition. Her path has intentionally wandered through Uruguayan handcraft traditions, a fully funded master’s degree in Art Theory in Beijing, and time living in Greenland, where vast landscapes reshaped her sense of color and presence. Today, living in Denmark, her work is vibrant and emotionally clear, blending archetypal ideas with personal stories to explore what connects us and what defines her.
