Beautiful and rare Sargadelos porcelain chess set, handcrafted in Galicia, Spain. Designed in the bold geometric modernist style characteristic of Sargadelos ceramics, this set combines sculptural form and elegant simplicity. The 32 pieces are hand-painted in deep cobalt blue and warm sepia glazes. Each figure — from the stylised knights to the distinctive pawns — showcases the brand’s instantly recognisable artistry and craftsmanship. The set comes with its original wooden chessboard featuring decorative marquetry edging and a metal plaque reading: “Cariñoso recuerdo conxeneros AUTOS-CITIBANK 10-99” indicating it was a special commissioned edition produced in 1999. Condition • Chess pieces: Excellent overall with vibrant colour and gloss. One brown pawn has a visible crack (photographed). No other chips or repairs noted. • Board: Original board included; some surface warping and raised veneer from previous damp exposure (see photos). Still stable and functional for display or play. Sargadelos chess sets are now hard to find, especially complete examples with both colour sets and original board.
