The Philips B8X44A represents a “top of the line” tube radio model from Philips’ last generation of valve receivers before the solid-state era. The intercom feature is rare for a radio of this type — giving it extra appeal for collectors of vintage hi-fi or vintage communication systems. The radio was recovered and cleaned. The wooden cabinet is fairly well preserved, but has minor marks and stains. All switches have been lubricated. The volume, bass, treble, and balance knobs have been cleaned and lubricated and work quite well. The 9 tubes ECC85, ECH81, EF89, EF183, EM84, ECC83, 2xECL86, EZ81 do their job very well. The expanded stereo effect is noticeable. The FM scale indicator is hidden somewhere inside, but station search is not affected. The stations reception is very good, see the magic eye.
